Job Description

Careerscape is working with a Maine natural resources agency that needs a Fisheries Biologist to study and manage fish populations in lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. You'll conduct surveys, analyze data, and make management recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct fish population surveys using various sampling methods
  • Collect biological data from fish specimens
  • Analyze population trends and habitat conditions
  • Monitor water quality in lakes and streams
  • Prepare fishery management plans and reports
  • Collaborate with commercial and recreational fishing groups
  • Enforce fishing regulations when needed
  • Present findings to stakeholders and public
  • Maintain boats, equipment, and sampling gear

Requirements

  • Master degree in Fisheries Biology or related field
  • 2-4 years of fisheries research or management experience
  • Strong fish identification skills for Maine species
  • Knowledge of sampling methods and survey techniques
  • Experience operating boats and using electrofishing equipment
  • Proficiency with data analysis and statistical software
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills
  • Valid driver license and boating safety certification
  • Physical fitness for fieldwork in all weather
