What You Will Do
GFT Infrastructure Inc. is seeking an Hourly Architectural Historian to join our Environmental Team in Raleigh, NC ! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Raleigh, NC office.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do
GFT’s Transportation Business Line, Raleigh Office, is seeking a highly motivated Architectural Historian to assist with ongoing fieldwork and reporting in North Carolina through the summer of 2025. This is an hourly position but may be expanded for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the overall execution of NRHP eligibility evaluations. Specific tasks include field data collection, archival and secondary research, interviews, photography, mapping, and evaluation of NRHP eligibility according to the National Register Bulletin 15: How to Apply the National Register Criteria for Evaluation (NPS 1997). This work will be conducted as part of a team.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Conducting field work in a professional manner, as a representative of the firm and our client.
  • Conducting research in support of historic property inventories and National Register (NR) evaluations. Developing historic and/or architectural contexts.
  • Participating in field investigation for Historic Resource Surveys and Assessments. Travel will be required and will include overnight stays.
  • Costs incurred for direct expenses, e.g., travel, hotel, meals, will be reimbursed or paid for by the company. Travel to/from the project site will be compensated within reason and may be negotiated.
  • Reporting results of research and field investigations and making NR eligibility recommendations. Completing all required architectural forms and associated documentation in accordance with state requirements.
Education | Experience:
What You Will Bring To Our Firm
  • Bachelor’s Degree in history, historic preservation, architectural history, or closely related field. A master’s degree is highly desired but not required.
  • Meet the Secretary of Interiors’ Professional Qualification Standards for Historic Architecture (Appendix A of 36 CFR Part 61).
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the southeast, with a preference for work experience in Appalachia and North Carolina.
  • Communicates well verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and track data, project deliverables, and schedules.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project).
  • Proficient with Esri mapping software.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $30 - $40 per hour. We can guarantee a minimum of 24 hours per week. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
